About the Event
This program features five short films that illuminates the current injustices, systems at play, and the solutions needed to prepare and respond to climate disasters. The short films bring overlooked stories into the light and exposes the historical inequities that are exacerbated when disasters hit. This free event will also include a discussion led by climate justice advocates representing University of West Florida, Center for Independent Living of Northwest Florida, and Alliance for Climate Education.
Through this screening, BRACE seeks to educate Florida residents on how climate justice issues impact their local communities and what can be done to build resilience to the disasters that Florida is susceptible to, including hurricanes, flooding and extreme heat. Equitable disaster preparedness and recovery is increasingly urgent as COVID-19 further exposes and intensifies the disproportional impacts on low income residents, people of color, older adults and people with disabilities.
